For our final article in the series on the American Express® Platinum Card (our favourite card!), we’re digging into the card’s top lifestyle benefits: from access to exclusive experiences, to complimentary dining and fashion perks, and so much more.

These benefits are in addition to the card’s top-notch rewards program and numerous travel-related perks, which we covered in earlier articles.

Access to experiences

The all-metal Platinum Card is more than just a stylish accessory: it’s also your ticket to a range of unique experiences, from dining to sport and entertainment.

For example, Platinum Card Members can purchase tickets to specially curated events that are not open to the general public, such as the annual American Express Grange Dinner where guests enjoy fine wine, expert narration and perfectly matched dishes in some of Australia’s best restaurants.

Similarly, golf lovers can take part in the Platinum Golf Invitational, a concurrent singles Stableford and Irish Stableford team competition played on some of Australia’s top private golf courses.

The separate American Express Experiences program gives Platinum Card Members the chance to purchase tickets to sought-after public events, often before they go on sale to the general public. Whether you’re a music fan, a film buff, a theatre lover, a follower of fashion or a keen foodie, Amex could get you some of the best seats in the house for a variety of concerts and shows.

The Global Dining Collection

Platinum Card Members enjoy benefits at an array of stylish restaurants, such as access to priority reservations via the Platinum Concierge.

You can also delight in Amex’s Global Chef Partnerships for exclusive experiences like kitchen tours, special menus, and opportunities to meet world-renowned chefs.

Digital news subscription and Departures Magazine

Your complimentary The Australian Premium digital subscription gives you access to expert news coverage and analysis from both The Australian and The Wall Street Journal.

You can also enjoy member-only features like a weekly curated eNewsletter featuring a selection of the best reads from The Australian and news partners including The Economist and Harvard Business Review, as well as virtual events featuring some of The Australian’s most experienced political and business journalists.

Departures Magazine by American Express is a quarterly travel and lifestyle publication curated specially for Platinum Card Members. In addition to receiving the printed version in the mail, you can also access the Departures online website which features a wealth of inspiration such as curated guides to top travel destinations and coverage of lifestyle news and events.

Langton’s fine wine

Platinum Card Members can enjoy special benefits with Langton’s, Australia’s leading fine wine specialist. These benefits include:

  • a shopping rewards program that entitles you to a complimentary bottle of wine per membership year according to the Langton’s classification range (minimum annual spend of $5,000-$50,000 applies).

Complimentary insurance cover

Travel securely with complimentary domestic and overseas travel insurance cover when you pay for a return trip with your Platinum Card, Membership Rewards points or airline frequent flyer points.

This cover extends to you, your partner and dependent children up to the age of 24, as well as up to four Additional Card Members.

You’ll also receive complimentary smartphone screen insurance when you purchase your phone outright or pay monthly phone bills with your card. You can be reimbursed for the cost of the screen repair up to $500 for two events a year. A 10% excess applies to the claimed amount.

Finally, Purchase Protection provides cover for loss, theft or damage to eligible items within 90 days of purchase, while Refund Protection provides cover for the purchase price of an unused eligible item if a retailer will not take it back.

Shopping, fashion and wellness

To round out the lifestyle benefits, you can receive a credit of up to $75, twice per calendar year when you spend across NET-A-PORTER and MR PORTER (enrolment required). That’s up to $150 that you can get back each year for simply shopping with leading fashion brands.

You can also regularly get money back and bonus points with a range of merchants via the Amex Offers program. Simply choose the offers you like online or in the Amex app, save them to your card and meet the required spend to redeem the offer.

Finally, for the wellness-minded, Amex is offering a complimentary 12-month subscription to Chris Hemsworth’s app Centr (worth $119.99), which provides access to workout programs, mindfulness tips and meal plans to train, eat and live better (offer ends 14 February 2022).
