Qantas has shaken up the costs involved to join and renew Qantas Club membership.
For new members, the one-off joining fee has been slashed from $399 to $99 while the year-on-year fees have increased.
The new membership fees are as follows:
- one-year membership: was $540, now $600
- two-year membership: was $980, now $1,100
- four-year membership: was $1,850, now $2,000.
These changes are designed to entice more people to join Qantas Club by removing the barrier of the large joining fee.
However, over the longer term, the airline could recoup this lost revenue.
Existing Qantas Club members are not affected by this change – which is a good thing, because many won’t be thrilled by having even busier lounges during peak times.
Qantas currently operates Qantas Club lounges in Adelaide, Alice Springs, Brisbane, Broome, Cairns, Canberra, Coffs Harbour, Darwin, Devonport, Emerald, Gladstone, Gold Coast, Hobart, Kalgoorlie, Karratha, Launceston, Mackay, Melbourne, Perth, Sydney, Tamworth and Townsville.
The Port Hedland and Rockhampton lounges remain closed.
Qantas Club members can also access international lounges when flying overseas.
Other benefits include extra checked baggage allowance when travelling in economy or premium economy, and domestic on departure upgrades from economy to business class.

I am confused too: existing members ‘wont be affected’? Does that mean we won’t have to pay the higher annual renewal rate? I suspect that will be the same for everyone so they will be affected.
Hi, existing members will pay their current (lower) renewal rates.
I’m confused. What’s stopping a person from simply taking out a new membership for $99 each year rather than renewing?
$99 is the joining fee on top of the membership fee.
