Qantas launches flights from Perth to Auckland and Johannesburg

Qantas has announced the launch of two new international routes from Perth, connecting the Western Australian capital to Auckland, New Zealand, and Johannesburg, South Africa.

The new services are scheduled to commence in December 2025 and are now open for booking.

The announcement marks a significant expansion of Qantas’ international operations, adding over 155,000 seats annually through Perth and reinforcing the city’s role as a growing hub in the airline’s network, which spans more than 100 destinations worldwide.

Each route will operate three times per week using Airbus A330 aircraft, offering 27 business class seats in a 1-2-1 configuration and 224 economy seats in a 2-4-2 layout.

The Perth–Auckland service will depart on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays at 7pm with a flight time of approximately 6 hours and 45 minutes, reaching Auckland at 4:45 am the next day.

The return service departs Auckland at 8.30 am, arriving in Perth at 11.30 am.

The Perth–Johannesburg service will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays departing at 13:30, with a flight time of around 11 hours and 15 minutes, and a scheduled arrival of 18:45.

The return leg lifts off from Johannesburg at 21:35, arriving in Perth the following day at 13:30.

Partner airline Airlink will provide connections to destinations such as Cape Town.

Qantas International CEO Cam Wallace said the new routes offer greater choice and connectivity for travellers, while supporting tourism and job creation in Western Australia.

“By connecting Perth directly with Auckland and Johannesburg, we’re supporting the local economy by opening valuable inbound tourism opportunities and generating new jobs,” Wallace said.

The airline highlighted the support of federal funding allocated to the Australian Border Force and the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, which has enabled Perth Airport to invest in enhanced border and biosecurity capacity, making the new services possible.

Fares are available now on Qantas.com with the inaugural Perth to Johannesburg service taking off on 7 December 2025 and inaugural Perth to Auckland service taking off on 8 December 2025.
