Velocity and 7-Eleven launch points-earning partnership

0

Velocity Frequent Flyer and 7-Eleven have joined forces, and this collaboration is all set to give the more than 10 million Velocity members a chance to earn some extra Velocity Points, starting from today.

Who knew grabbing a cup of joe or filling up your tank could get you one step closer to your dream vacation?

With this new partnership, Velocity members will now have even more opportunities to rack up points.

With more than 700 7-Eleven stores located in neighbourhoods across Victoria, New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory, Queensland and Western Australia, Velocity members will earn:

  • 2 Points per $1 on eligible 7-Eleven in-store purchases
  • 2 Points per litre on premium fuel at 7-Eleven
  • 1 Point per litre on regular fuel at 7-Eleven.

Plus, Velocity members will earn 711 bonus points on their first eligible purchase at 7-Eleven made by 28 June 2021.

To earn Velocity Points, you simply need to:

  1. Join Velocity Frequent Flyer at www.velocityfrequentflyer.com
  2. Download the My 7-Eleven app here and follow the steps to link your Velocity account to you My 7-Eleven My Card
  3. Make an eligible purchase from a 7-Eleven convenience store or fuel station and upon payment scan your Velocity linked My 7-Eleven My Card.

Eligible purchases exclude tobacco and tobacco related products, mobile prepaid/recharge phones and sim cards, and gift cards.

Point of sale Velocity card readers, which allow members to simply swipe or scan their physical Velocity membership card or My Velocity Digital Card when shopping at 7-Eleven, will gradually be introduced at all 7-Eleven fuel and convenience stores.

Western Australia, you’re the first on the list!

This partnership replaces the Velocity-BP tie up that ended in 2019. BP now partners with Qantas.

More information about the Velocity-7-Eleven partnership is available here.

Earn 20 bonus Status Credits with each Virgin Australia flight

0

Virgin Australia is tempting travellers with the offer of 20 bonus Status Credits each time they fly.

It’s a pretty generous deal that could help customers attain or keep elite status with the airline and enjoy perks like lounge access and more.

All you need to do is activate the offer and then book an eligible flight by 2 June 2021 (and include your Velocity Frequent Flyer number in the booking) for travel to 19 April 2022.

Eligible flights are all domestic and trans-Tasman flights marketed and operated by Virgin Australia that normally accrue Status Credits, except the cheapest Getaway economy fares. This means you will need to book an Elevate fare or higher.

Status Credits cannot be earned on Velocity reward bookings, so naturally they aren’t included in this promotion.

There is no limit on the amount of times this offer can be redeemed.

For more information and activate this offer, visit Virgin Australia here.

Save money and earn bonus reward points with top brands via Amex Offers

0

One of my favourite perks of being an American Express Card Member is saving money and earning bonus points with leading brands through the Amex Offers program.

Amex Offers is a complimentary benefit that delivers compelling value to Card Members.

Depending on the offer, you can get a credit on your Amex account when you make an eligible purchase with a participating merchant (similar to a ‘cashback’ scheme) or earn bonus points on such a purchase.

Over time, the savings and additional points can really add up – making your hard-earned money go further and bringing points redemptions within closer reach.

I save hundreds each year with Amex Offers and earn lots of bonus points as well.

Many readers here at The High Life already love and use Amex Offers, but we know that some aren’t yet making the most of the program.

So to help everyone maximise the rewards, we’ve teamed up with American Express to produce this guide.

Read on to discover how Amex Offers works, and then to see what offers are available to you visit Amex here.

And if you’re not a Card Member yet and want to make use of Amex Offers, now is a great time to sign up, with some big bonus offers on the table.

What are Amex Offers?

Amex Offers are limited-time opportunities to save money or earn bonus points on eligible spend with specific merchants.

Typically, the offers are structured like:

  • spend $X, get $Y back on your account
  • spend $X, get Y number of bonus points
  • earn X number of bonus points for each $1 spent at a particular merchant.

For example, here are some of the offers I’ve currently saved to my card.

Amex Offers examples

Many different merchants across the travel, transport, dining and retail sectors participate in the program, from small businesses to global brands.

Some of the current and recently expired offers include:

  • Ampol: spend $50, get $10
  • Menulog: spend $30 or more, get $10 back
  • Toys R Us: 15% back
  • General Pants: 15% back
  • Pablo & Rusty’s Coffee Roasters: spend $24 or more, get $10 back, up to three times
  • Matches Fashion: spend $550 or more, get $125 back
  • Rag & Bone: spend $200 or more, get $50 back
  • Sheridan: spend $200, get $30 back
  • Bras N Things: 15% back
  • Seafolly: 15% back
  • MJ Bale: 15% back
  • Boozebud: 15% back
  • Liquorland: spend $100, get $10 back
  • Hertz: spend $200 or more, get $40 back
  • Virgin Australia: spend $250 or more, get $40 back
  • Avis: spend $270 or more, get $50 back
  • IHG Hotels & Resorts: spend $350 or more, get $85 back
  • Marriott Bonvoy: spend $300 or more, get $75 back
  • Hilton: spend $400 or more, get $80 back.

Some of the above offers are available to save right now. However, there is a cap on how many cards can save each offer, and some cap out faster than others.

Often you can ‘stack’ Amex Offers with promotions run by the brands themselves to get an even better deal – though you’ll want to check the offer T&Cs first to make sure your planned purchase is eligible, as exclusions may apply.

How to use Amex Offers

Most American Express cards can participate in the Amex Offers program, including Additional Cards issued to family and friends.

New offers pop up all the time and can sometimes be targeted at individual Card Members. That means that not every Card Member will have access to the same offers.

To see what offers you can access, simply check the “Offers” tab in the Amex App …

Amex Offers – App view

… or, if you’re on a desktop computer, scroll down to the “Offers” section on your account homepage.

Amex Offers – desktop view

To take advantage of a deal, simply save the offer to your card and then shop with the merchant in line with the offer T&Cs. You must save the offer to your card before spending with the particular merchant.

You can view the offers already saved to your card in the Amex App and online.

As mentioned above, each offer usually has a cap on how many cards can save it, so it’s a matter of ‘first in, best dressed’. Savvy Card Members will want to regularly check what offers are available and enable marketing communications from Amex to receive emails about new offers (to do this, log into your account online then click on Account Management -> Alert & Communication Preferences -> Privacy Preferences).

Once you’ve redeemed an offer, the credit or bonus points will usually appear within a few days, but sometimes may take longer.

Summing up

Amex Offers provides a simple way to get more out of your spend by earning bonus points or receiving a credit on your card account.

It’s easy to keep track of new offers (in fact, it’s become second nature to me to check what offers are available whenever I have a few seconds spare), and redeeming them is also straightforward: simply pay with your card and enjoy the rewards.

I save hundreds of dollars each year through Amex Offers, and you may be able to as well.

Qantas adds new Points Club benefits

0

Qantas has introduced new benefits for members of its Points Club program. The program, which was introduced in early 2020, rewards Qantas Frequent Flyer members who earn lots of points ‘on the ground’ as opposed to in the air.

There are two membership tiers: people who earn 150,000 points in their QFF membership year join the Points Club, while those who earn 350,000 points get into the more rewarding Points Club Plus. You keep that membership tier for the remainder of the year, plus the following year.

In addition to the existing benefits like lounge entries and hotel discounts, Qantas is rewarding members with:

  • Qantas Hotels vouchers: $50 for Points Club or $100 for Points Club Plus members (no minimum spend)
  • Qantas Wine vouchers on your birthday: $50 for Points Club or 2x$50 for Points Club Plus members (min spend $149)
  • a Milestone Bonus Reward of 2,500 bonus Qantas Points when you earn 250,000 Qantas Points in a membership year
  • unspecified “exclusive flying offers throughout the year” and “handpicked” lifestyle offers.

To receive the hotel and wine vouchers, you must have a valid email address and be opted in to receive ‘Exclusive offers for Qantas Frequent Flyers’ marketing emails.

It’s great to see Qantas further reward customers who don’t fly regularly but more than make up for it with their spending habits.

Qantas slashes Qantas Club joining fee, increases ongoing cost

4

Qantas has shaken up the costs involved to join and renew Qantas Club membership.

For new members, the one-off joining fee has been slashed from $399 to $99 while the year-on-year fees have increased.

The new membership fees are as follows:

  • one-year membership: was $540, now $600
  • two-year membership: was $980, now $1,100
  • four-year membership: was $1,850, now $2,000.

These changes are designed to entice more people to join Qantas Club by removing the barrier of the large joining fee.

However, over the longer term, the airline could recoup this lost revenue.

Existing Qantas Club members are not affected by this change – which is a good thing, because many won’t be thrilled by having even busier lounges during peak times.

Qantas currently operates Qantas Club lounges in Adelaide, Alice Springs, Brisbane, Broome, Cairns, Canberra, Coffs Harbour, Darwin, Devonport, Emerald, Gladstone, Gold Coast, Hobart, Kalgoorlie, Karratha, Launceston, Mackay, Melbourne, Perth, Sydney, Tamworth and Townsville.

The Port Hedland and Rockhampton lounges remain closed.

Qantas Club members can also access international lounges when flying overseas.

Other benefits include extra checked baggage allowance when travelling in economy or premium economy, and domestic on departure upgrades from economy to business class.

More information about Qantas Club membership is available here.

Qantas status ‘fast track’ returns for customers of 16 airlines

1

Qantas is once again running a big status ‘fast track’ offer for elite members of 16 competitor airline loyalty programs.

Qantas last ran this promo in November 2020, but this time it’s been expanded to include residents of New Zealand.

Individuals who hold eligible loyalty status with a qualifying airline program are invited to switch to Qantas.

All you have to do is register for this promo by 30 April and earn 100 status credits by 31 July and you’ll qualify for Qantas’ Gold tier.

Those wishing to transfer from a higher flying tier – Platinum and Platinum One equivalents – will only be able to transfer to Qantas’ Gold status, rather than have their status matched.

Reaching a higher frequent flyer status with Qantas will require members to earn the normal status credits (1,400 for Platinum and 3,600 for Platinum One).

To earn 100 status credits, you could take 5 return economy trips between Sydney to Melbourne or one return business class trip from Melbourne to Cairns.

To help you plan, use Qantas’ points and status credits calculator.

Until 31 July, Qantas will provide you with a ‘taste of Gold’ by way of complimentary Qantas Club access and extra checked baggage.

Full Gold tier benefits with Qantas include lounge access across Qantas and oneworld airline lounges globally, preferential seating and priority access to reward seats, as well as priority check-in, boarding and upgrade requests.

More information about tier benefits is available here.

The qualifying airlines and eligible status levels are:

  • Air Canada – Aeroplan: 50K, 75K, Super Elite
  • Air China – Phoenix Miles: Gold, Platinum
  • Air India Flying Returns: Golden Edge Club, The Maharajah Club
  • Air New Zealand Airpoints: Gold, Elite
  • ANA – Mileage Club: Platinum, Diamond
  • Asiana Airlines Asiana Club: Diamond, Diamond Plus, Platinum

  • Thai Airways Royal Orchid Plus: Royal Orchid Plus Gold, Royal Orchid Plus Platinum
  • United Airlines – MileagePlus: Premier Gold, Premier Platinum, Premier 1K
  • Virgin Australia – Velocity: Velocity Gold, Velocity Platinum.

Registrations for this offer close on 30 April and are only open to individuals with an Australian or New Zealand home postal address.

You’ll need to provide evidence of your existing status with an eligible airline.

Members who have already been activated on the previous Qantas Status Fast Track (between 26 November 2020 and 31 March 2021) have until 30 June 2021 to earn the required Status Credits and are not eligible to apply for this Status Fast Track.
