Virgin Australia has updated its policy for changes and cancellations of flight bookings in light of the Australian government’s latest travel restrictions.

Virgin Australia guests with new or existing domestic or international bookings for travel between 15 March through to 30 June 2020 have the option to change their flight to a later date and/or to a different destination, without incurring a change fee.

Please note:

  • Guests will still be required to pay any fare difference or applicable taxes should the same booking class/fare not be available on the date they wish to rebook.
  • Maximum two changes per international booking.
  • Maximum one change per domestic booking.

If you need to change your international flight and have booked from 12 March, you are able to action this through Manage My Booking. If you have booked prior to this, or need to change your domestic flight, contact Virgin’s Guest Contact Centre on 13 67 89.

If your departure is within the next four weeks and you want to cancel your flight, you are eligible to receive credit to a Travel Bank (essentially a credit voucher) with no cancellation fee. It’s not clear if you can do this online or need to go through the Guest Contact Centre.

Virgin Australia hasn’t stated if they are waiving cancellation fees for reward bookings, but it’s worth asking for it.

For changes or cancellation of travel booked through a travel agent, please contact your travel agent directly.

The latest advice (which is constantly changing) is available on Virgin’s website, here.

Don’t forget that if your flight is delayed or cancelled, you may be entitled to a refund under the airline’s policy or the Australian Consumer Law.
